Document Types are used within ESE to help organize your information which is being stored.  There are many options, you will find when creating or modifying Document Types.

In ESE, under a Document Type / General tab, you will find a checkbox that is labeled “Active.” You may select or clear this check box to activate or deactivate this document type.  However, deactivated document type cannot be used to create documents but existing documents of this type are not affected.

There are some time block the use of this document type for manual entry of a new document.  This is the field directly below the checkbox.  Three options are available:

Allowed – This option can be selected to allow manual creation and automation generation of documents via background jobs.

Blocked – This option allows you to block manual creation of this document type, but allows documents to be generated via background jobs.  Documents that are blocked may not be found via searches (quick or advanced) or when trying to create a new document.

Hidden – This option allows you to block manual creation of this document type, but allows documents to be generated via background jobs.  Documents that are Hidden may be found via searches (quick or advanced) or when trying to create a new document.
