When using Synergy Only Items, we recommend the use of a separate Assortment for each type of item.  As an example, you may wish to track Preventative Maintenance on your CNC or other machines in your shop.  All of the machines that you are tracking as Items should be in this Assortment.  This will allow you to run Pivot Analysis, Searches and SSRS reports with the information that is useful to you.

You may also wish to track gages in Synergy.  These should also be under a separate Assortment for the same reasons.

With the different items being placed into separate assortments based upon their use, you can take advantage of Synergy’s Free Fields by Product Assortment, which is very powerful.
